My mum has the coolest outdoor lights. They're kind of brown with yellow circle glass in them and very interesting looking. I really wanted to find lights like hers for our house. After several missteps (every light we liked for outdoors was either discontinued or they only had a single light left...so why even have it on the display floor?) we settled on these ones. I like them even more than in the lighting store!

Also, our downspouts got installed.

And the light in the front entry. Again, I had something different in mind, but because everything within our price range was excruciatingly boring, I settled on this. There are a few things about the house I don't like (the mouldings around the doors upstairs for instance) so in the 20 or so years I'm sure I'll replace those things. It's hard for a perfectionist like me to take things slowly though!

The den. I HATE these lights. I had no idea we could request a ceiling light instead of these awful wall sconces. Maybe they'll grow on me, but for now my brilliant plan is to remove them, put a plate over and then hang pictures there. *sigh* The lights themselves are quite pretty though, aren't they?

Our bedroom. The wall colour is actually gray. I need to find some white bedding and then I'll accent with texture I think. Can't wait.

The carpets were supposed to be installed on Friday but they weren't at the warehouse. So hopefully tomorrow?! Then we're just waiting on switchplates, toilets, sinks, fixtures...the lipstick basically. Only ELEVEN more days!!

Lights Added

We stopped by our house quick today. The painters were hard at work upstairs doing the second coat of paint. But we managed to scope out what they'd been up to downstairs. Our stair rail and steps are (mostly) in as well as some trim going up the stair case.

And our lights have been delivered. The lights and doorbell get installed tomorrow as well as any electrical work. Friday the carpet goes in.

This is where the old ramp and stairs used to be. They put some fill in, levelled it, and put up a retaining wall. Now they're building wooden steps. Three down to the path by the solarium.

Then a ninety degree turn following the line of the deck and another few down to another landing.
From that landing there's another turn then steps down to the basement.

Tiles

The tilers continued working on our tile on Friday. The shower was almost done...and we got to pick the grout too for the bathroom.

But I just found out that they won't paint our house if it gets too cold. I'm so sad :( Hopefully it will be really mild for a long time so I can have my house FINISHED before next spring!!

Dad visited our house today. He wanted some pictures of the backyard. These are from the park behind the house.

House Update: November 22nd Edition

This is the week where the house goes from 0 to 60!

They've finished all the siding on the house now. The front still needs to be painted, but the details are almost all done. See, they've even got most of the stonework done on the front.

It's lookin' nice, eh?

The guy was almost done cutting the pieces for this cap this evening. I love that they did it in stone.

Yesterday at 4ish the cabinet guys arrived. They worked almost 12 hours straight (two of them) and got the cabinet boxes all installed (except the powder room which they do after the tile floor is in.) This is the laundry room where the sink will go.

And across from the sink above my washer/dryer.

Here's a close up of the counter top that is in the kitchen and [this is] the laundry room. In this room we decided to do the brown because we didn't have a sample of the flooring and wanted to pick something fairly neutral. In the kitchen we went with brown because we weren't sure what accent colours we'd use with all the brown. By going with brown counter tops we can do any colour for accents.

Here's a view of the kitchen. My head doesn't quite come up to the halfway mark on those upper cabinets. I'm going to be investing in a step stool for the kitchen!! The brown box standing all by itself here in the left corner is the powder room cabinetry.

And a close up of the counter tops we put in the three bathrooms. I love it SO much and almost wish we'd just put it in the kitchen. The blue is only super noticeable against the blue paint.

We got these awesome white tiles (REALLY wanted white in here...I'm so glad the tile guy recommended these tiles!)

More of the same :)

Well, at this stage it feels like more of the same...the siding is still going on the house, and the painters are working away. However, it's getting awfully close to when things will need to be done. Two weeks from today Corey wants our dishwasher and hood fan delivered so they can be hooked up. That must mean that the house will be ready for them to be hooked up (right?)

Anyhoo...here's the south side of the house. Top floor windows are to David's room, window below is the laundry room and below that is the basement!

And the front of the house...the siding parts (except around David's bedroom) are hardi plank. They'll paint that in whatever colour it was that Andrew picked for the hardi plank. We ended up picking three shades of brown...one is a close match to the vinyl siding; one is a medium brown and one is a very dark brown. I can't remember what goes where so it will be a nice surpirse for all of us ;) I do know we didn't want white trim and our door is going to be red.

Here's the front entrance way. Looks like we'll have a wee little porchy thing in front of the door.

Inside, they've been busy spraying our doors and the trim. There was a painter there today working on a final coat on the trim.

This is the inside of our garage. Andrew's really excited about the quality of our garage door. He says it's much nicer (thicker) than our current garage door. Which is good, especially if I decide to try and drive dad's truck into the garage without opening it first (again).

This afternoon we stopped at the Brick and looked at appliances. The sales guy was very helpful, and explained quite well the differences in appliances. We've got a list of the ones that looked the best (based on quality of handles, room in dishwashers etc.) but now I want to check out reviews before we actually order.

We dropped off the three mirrors we have already and we tried to pick up the tile today too, but they were closed. The tile has to be there by a week from today so I guess that's something we'll be doing on the weekend coming. And now I'm off to do some comparison shopping online. Toodles ;)
