Last posting for a while...

I expect this will be the last posting for a while on this blog. The rooms are about as done as they'll get until we have time to get to buy some more curtains, pick up furniture, etc. Andrew has the stomach 'flu now and I haven't been getting much sleep so it's kind of low on our priority list (never mind there's about a thousand things still to do for Christmas...)

Anyhoo, here's the living room now that there are books on the shelves:

Dave came over today and got the pilot lights going for me so that we could have the gas fireplaces on. I like 'em for looks as much as for heat. So cozy!

The den with the fireplace on. This is the room we need some kind of furniture for (and Davey's bed should arrive any day now from Sears).

Here's a view of the living room again, from the hallway as you come from the front door.

And the laundry room. That bar across the window is our old shower curtain rod - I want to use it for hanging some things to dry.

The washer and dryer. The delivery guys dropped the washing machine when they delivered it so we get a new one on Saturday.

A slightly different view of the laundry room. We brought our bench in (the one that was in the garage before) and as soon as Andrew is able to help with setting up the house he's going to put the shelf up that goes with it.

In the basement. Eventually I'd like the TV to be here and not upstairs.

The kids corner of the basement. Eventually we're going to cover most of the floor in these tiles. They're pretty cheap, very spongy (better than rugs!) and easy to clean.

That corner is going to be my computer/craft area.

And the pile of boxes I still need to go through and sort away. Most of it is either the toys that go in the bins you saw in the pic of the kids area, or summer time things like our cooler, beach toys, etc.

I'm really not comfortable with this...

Certain people are not going to let me rest until I update this blog. I'm really not comfortable with "in progress" pictures. I want everything to be perfect before I post pictures, but that's gonna take me a while. So. Here's the pictures. Please ignore the mess. And the boxes. Etc.

We decorated for Christmas yesterday and so the kids got to see my Christmas Starbucks bears. I have rather too many. But they think they're pretty fun. Davey lined them all up on the fireplace and said, "all the bears are ready to say cheese for their pictures". So I had to take their picture. If you don't care about the cute kids and the bears, you can enlarge the pic and have a look at the flooring.

All of these were taken in the dark so they're not the greatest. However, here's one view of our kitchen (and the kids eating dinner):

And another. If you look carefully you can see the spot where we're missing a countertop and the cabinet is broken. The rest of the kitchen looks pretty awesome though, eh?

Here's a view back into the living room.

Davey's bedroom. I haven't done much in here until his new bed arrives. I'm not sure exactly where it's going...also I need to hem the curtains.

But here's the reading corner. The kids like to sit in here and Elisabeth reads to David

Ellie's room. Haven't done anything in here other than hanging the curtains (Andrew) and putting their beds in.

Our bathroom. Andrew hung the mirrors yesterday but we`re still waiting for handles on 3 cabinet doors and I think we have to seal the shower tiles before we can use it. Anyway, I haven't unpacked anything in here either because I was hoping the cabinet guys would be back. I think I'm going to have to unpack anyway.

Mum, you wanted to see the appliances. Here's the fridge.

The inside...

And the freezer.

Here's our stove. It's not a convention oven, but it does do convection...or speed bake anyway.

Move in Day:

This is from our move in day (Thursday). I got to the house before the movers and took the opportunity to take pictures of the finished house without piles of boxes in it. Here's the kitchen/dining room.

The kids in their playroom. They were SO hyper and excited to be moving.

A shot of the kitchen from a different angle. The appliances arrived on Friday (except for the washer/dryer which just arrived this evening).

The living room. To give you an idea of scale, the mantle on that fireplace is about chin level for me.

This is the den with the finished mantle. Looks nice, doesn't it!

I just liked the light on that tree...but here's the stair case. This light still doesn't work.

This picture is from last night...I had opportunity to use the guest room to house a guest so here it is set up. I'll have to find some art work to put on the wall but for now the bed is made and it's looking pretty cozy. Just needs curtains and something on the walls :)

Last I heard, tomorrow is the inspection

And I know that our builders are going to fail it on purpose. But I really did think the house would be further along than this. For my own sake, I'm going to list what I can see that still needs doing inside.

Here's the outside. There's quite a lot of clean up to be done out side, especially on the North side of the house. However, as it's winter now, and the clean up guy always comes after dark, I'm anticipating that we will have to be doing a lot of that clean up. As long as it's not me that has to climb on the roof to clean out the gutters ;)

Here's one shot of the laundry room. The piping and stuff for the hot water tank is all in there now. Again, I'm surprised that it's all done outside the wall but I'm all for hot water :)

The painting is done inside. And all the doors are hung. I didn't pay attention to how many light switches and electrical outlets still need plates, but it's a fair number. There's a good stack of them in the kitchen.

The kick plate has been installed in the kitchen though. I love ours here, I'm so glad to get one there!

Here's one side of the den.
And another view. Unfortunately, these pictures don't do it justice. You'll have to come for a visit. In this room we still need the mantle for the fireplace and some of the plates.

The caps have been placed on the banister.

And here's our room. The ceiling and walls have been painted (second coat) and the ceiling has had some accenting done.

This is our bathroom. We still need the glass walls around the shower, and cabinet doors (actually, we haven't got cabinet doors anywhere yet, so that's another thing we're waiting for).

The stairway outside our room:

So, I'm not back in Langley till Tuesday. We'll see what they manage to accomplish by then. I had hoped to have Andrew install curtains in our bedrooms on Wednesday so that when we move in on Thursday we don't have to worry about not having window coverings. We'll see if I get around to finding some and also the rods :P

I forgot to post a picture of the railing.

Davey and Daddy stopped at the house tonight to check out the new doors. Davey was pretty excited to see his bedroom - it's the first time he's been to the house since the carpet was put down. Look at the expression on his face!

As well as the doors being in, most of the plumbing fixtures have been added too.

Woo hoo! We have toilets!

And mum, here's a picture of your Christmas lights!

Nine Days Till We Move In....

Nine days away from moving in and the house is humming along. Outside, Matt finished the front post.

The hot water 'thingie' is in the laundry room closet.

And holes have been cut ready for our sinks to go in. This is my kitchen window. Won't I have a lovely view when I'm washing dishes?

The carpet went in. These are the stairs down to the basement.

And the stairs to upstairs. (I think it's funny how the carpet looks like it's exactly the same shade as our walls. We did some crazy colour matching!)

This is the light in the spare room.
And the carpet in our bedroom. When we had to change carpet colour we asked to have our master bedroom repainted. I guess they forgot because this is the gray. I didn't go upstairs today, but Andrew says that the paint and carpets "aren't too bad, but they're not as nice as in the hallway." So I guess I'll live in the room for a week or two before I decide if I'm repainting it myself.

Here's our bathroom.

And Ellie's room. I have big plans for her room; I just haven't decided what the main colour of the walls should be. I guess we'll be living with her room for a while and I might repaint while Andrew is Texas this spring.

Oh, and here is the light for the stairwell between the main floor and the top floor. I think I like it...
